Maine Lawyers for the Rule of Law, sponsor of the 2025 Law Day Declaration signed by
over 100 Maine Law Firms and 700 Maine Lawyers in support of the Rule of Law,
announces a public Forum on Standing up for the Rule of Law: How do we save it?
on Tuesday, October 14 in Portland at Hannaford Hall at 7:00 pm.
The program will feature a keynote address by Noah Feldman, Frankfurter Professor of
Law, Harvard Law School on the concept of the Rule of Law, where it came from, how it
is foundational to our constitutional democracy and system of equal justice for all, and
what we lawyers, judges and all Mainers can and must do to defend and strengthen it.
Professor Feldman’s talk will be followed by a discussion by panel members Aaron
Frey, Maine Attorney General, Carol Garvan, Legal Director of the Maine ACLU, and
Susan Faunce, President of the Maine State Bar Association and by questions and
comments from the audience.
The Rule of Law as we have known it since the earliest days of our country is under
serious attack. Please join us to learn what we all can do — lawyers, judges and all
Mainers — to save and invigorate the Rule of Law and hold our elected leaders and
government accountable to the people. Our goal is a lively and informative discussion
and a forum for all of us to ask questions and make contributions.
