League's 105th Birthday

Happy Birthday to the League! Celebrate the League's 105th birthday with us.

February 14 marks our birthday. We were founded on February 14, 1920, after the 19th amendment was ratified and women won the right to vote.

This year on the anniversary of our founding, we'll talk about the suffrage movement of our century: lowering the voting age to 16. A bill has been submitted to the Maine Legislature, and we'll talk about supporting our youth leaders to get this bill across the finish line. Register below to join this webinar virtually on Zoom.

The League of Women Voters of Maine supports lowering the voting age after we conducted a rigorous study in 2023. Learn more about the study at: www.lwvme.org/VotingAgeStudy.

It's also the day of love — Valentine's Day. Help us celebrate. Give the gift of membership to someone close to you, someone you ❤️! Contributions like these help us continue our important work dedicated to making democracy work and empowering voters.

Membership grants you access to the League community, where you can volunteer with inspiring individuals and help us make big decisions about the League's goals and future. Membership is open to people of all genders, backgrounds, and political beliefs who are age 16 or older and who agree with our foundational principles.
